Downtown Detroit's Beacon Park is getting ready to glow. The green space at 1903 Grand River Ave. will welcome the 2026 holiday season with free, family-friendly programming, headlined by Light Up Beacon Park on November 21 and a golden light display that stretches from that night through January.
According to The Michigan Chronicle, the park will be strung with 125,000 LED holiday lights for the season, part of a display that also includes festive photo opportunities. Light Up Beacon Park itself kicks off on November 21 with festive entertainment, photo opportunities, family activities, and the lighting of a 20-foot holiday tree, the outlet reports. The golden display that follows is free and open to the public, running from that night through January.
The celebration arrives the day after the 23rd Annual Detroit Tree Lighting at Campus Martius Park, which takes place Friday, November 20, and is a holiday-season celebration downtown, according to the Downtown Detroit Partnership. That Campus Martius event features a 60-plus-foot Michigan spruce and an outdoor skating rink, the organization notes, setting the stage for Beacon Park's own tree lighting the very next evening.
A Design Haus and a Flagship Restaurant Join the Festivities
Beacon Park Design Haus also returns for select dates from November 21 through November 28, offering a heated interactive space filled with art, live music, wellness programming and culture, per the Chronicle's report. The addition gives visitors an indoor option to warm up between stops at the outdoor light displays.
Anchoring it all is Lumen Detroit, Beacon Park's flagship restaurant, which will offer seasonal menus, craft cocktails and heated private park-side chalets during the holiday run, the Chronicle reports. Lumen opened in March 2018 through a partnership between DTE Energy and Metro Detroit restaurateurs Norm and Bonnie LePage, who also operate Griffin Claw Brewing Co., according to Hour Detroit. The 4,000-square-foot building was designed by Boston architecture firm Touloukian Touloukian Inc. and features a green rooftop garden, cantilevered roof lines, and operable glass walls; it also has pending LEED Silver certification, as detailed by gb&d Magazine.
From Parking Lot to Downtown Anchor
Beacon Park itself has a relatively short but eventful history. Its development involved revitalizing an abandoned lot, with the project intended to anchor the neighborhood and spur economic development.
The park's holiday programming is made possible by the DTE Beacon Park Foundation and produced by the Downtown Detroit Partnership, which stewards 18 parks and public spaces across the city's central core, including Beacon Park, Campus Martius Park and Grand Circus Park.
Part of a Bigger Seasonal Push
Beacon Park's holiday glow is just one piece of a larger seasonal calendar downtown. The park is set to host its Cider in the City fall festival on October 17, with Blake's Farms and cider, according to the Downtown Detroit Partnership. The organization also earned a Community Placemaking Grant from Project for Public Spaces in February 2026 to redesign and activate pedestrian routes around downtown parks, an initiative running through late 2026 aimed at making winter visits more walkable.
Hoodline previously covered traditions like Birmingham's Winter Markt and Greenfield Village's Holiday Nights. Readers looking for the full lineup of this year's events, hours and chalet reservations can check dtebeaconpark.com for event listings and details.
