Beehive Science and Technology Academy is bringing a new campus to Saratoga Springs, with doors set to open at 10 S Saratoga Road for the 2027-28 school year. The free, public charter school will start the new location with kindergarten through seventh grade, adding to a Utah charter-school sector that keeps growing even as traditional district enrollment shrinks.
According to KUTV, Beehive is a nonprofit, tuition-free public charter school that pairs a STEM-focused curriculum with English, history and art. The Saratoga Springs campus will serve students in kindergarten through seventh grade, and the school has said that eighth through 12th grades will be added at the new location in the near future, per its own open house page. Beehive describes itself on its website as a free, public, K-12 charter STEM school offering programs in engineering, computer science, math and health sciences alongside the state's core standards, and it advertises a 17:1 student-to-teacher ratio.
From One Sandy Building to a Statewide STEM Brand
Beehive isn't new to expansion. The school opened on August 29, 2005, in Salt Lake City, and its current Sandy campus at 2165 E. 9400 S. now serves kindergarten through 12th grade, a scope it reached only after starting K-12 enrollment in the 2022-2023 school year, per the school's overview page. The Sandy campus enrolls 941 students, KUTV reports, and families interested in the Saratoga Springs opening can find enrollment details at beehiveacademy.org. Beehive's expansion over the years has not happened all at once — the school's own growth, as described by the Sandy Journal, came steadily, adding one grade level each year.
That track record has come with recognition. The school has been named a top Utah high school for five consecutive years from 2022 through 2026, by its own account, and Deseret News reported that U.S. News & World Report ranked the Sandy charter school as Utah's best high school for the fifth consecutive year, noting it was one of six charter schools to crack the publication's Utah top-10 list. KUTV also reports that Beehive received its third Platinum Level STEM School designation from the Utah State Board of Education and Utah STEM Action Center in 2026, and that Niche ranked Beehive Utah's No. 1 best charter K-12 school in its 2027 Best Schools rankings.
Charter Growth Amid a Statewide Enrollment Slide
The Saratoga Springs expansion lands at a moment when Utah's public-school enrollment picture is mixed. Statewide K-12 public school enrollment declined by 1.7% in the 2025-26 school year, marking the state's third consecutive year of decline, according to KSL. The outlet reported that 656,311 students were enrolled in the public education system in 2025-26, a decrease of 11,478 students from the prior year. At the same time, charter school enrollment grew by 3.6% and now represents 13% of Utah's total student population, the same report notes.
Saratoga Springs itself has been identified as an epicenter for growth in Utah, with an average growth rate of 635 residential units, or roughly 2,700 new residents, each year, according to the city's own growth and demographics page. Beehive currently keeps enrollment open at its existing Sandy location while the Saratoga Springs site is being prepared, and students there can take part in after-school clubs that support learning and exploration beyond the classroom, per KUTV.
Beyond the classroom additions, Beehive students have access to after-school clubs designed to support learning and exploration. Families weighing the 2027-28 school year for the new Saratoga Springs campus can find more information directly through the school's website.
