A Houston physical therapy practice known for its LGBTQ+-inclusive care model has planted its flag in Bellaire, opening a new clinic on West Loop South this fall. Elation Physical Therapy celebrated the grand opening of its new location on September 28, expanding beyond its original Houston Heights practice to a spot closer to the city's sprawling Medical Center.
The Bellaire clinic sits on the first floor of a shared office space at 6800 W. Loop South, Ste. 190, according to Community Impact. Dr. Roy Rivera, Jr., who owns and operates Elation and founded its original Heights location, said the move was about proximity as much as growth. “I wanted to bring our inclusive care closer to the medical center. It's a little bit more convenient for individuals, and there's a lot of medical practices in Bellaire,” he said, per the same report.
An Inclusive Model Rooted in LGBTQ+ Health
Elation has built its identity around gender-affirming post-operative care and mobility support, services the clinic describes on its own site as central to its mission of restoring mobility, reducing pain and improving overall wellness through personalized physical therapy, according to Elation Physical Therapy. The practice says it bases its approach on research into the physical and emotional effects of injury, disability and movement limitations, and positions itself as a space for people who need mobility support.
The clinic has described itself as a leader in LGBTQ+ healthcare, a framing echoed in its own marketing. In a Voyage Houston interview, Rivera, who serves as Elation's CEO and president, said the practice is proud to offer rehabilitative services specific to the LGBTQ+ community “to help mend the gap in care.” The same interview noted that Elation partnered with Legacy Community Health to become a preferred physical therapy provider for patients funded through the Ryan White Foundation, which supports HIV care.
Conflicting Counts on How Many Locations Elation Runs
Exactly how many clinics Elation now operates isn't entirely clear from available accounts. Community Impact's report described Bellaire as the business's second location, while the earlier Voyage Houston interview referred to Elation as having three locations in the Greater Houston area at the time. Hoodline could not independently reconcile the discrepancy.
What is consistent across sources is the breadth of services on offer. Elation's website lists physical therapy, pain management, sports medicine, dry needling, aquatic therapy and personal training among its offerings, according to elationpt.com. The same page describes the clinic as an LGBTQ+-friendly sports medicine and orthopedic physical therapy practice serving the Houston Heights, Bellaire, Meyerland, West University and surrounding Greater Houston communities.
Telehealth Extends Reach Beyond the Clinic Door
Beyond its physical locations, Elation offers virtual physical therapy sessions through telehealth, which the practice says allows it to reach patients anywhere in Texas, per elationpt.com. Rivera said the Bellaire expansion will allow Elation's staff to provide a more seamless care experience for patients, according to Community Impact's reporting.
The Voyage Houston interview also detailed the clinic's broader treatment focus, noting that Elation's outpatient practices aim to give patients a clear path to recovery from orthopedic injuries, musculoskeletal disorders and post-operative conditions. Founded in 2012 by Rivera, according to elationpt.com, the practice has since grown from its Heights roots into a wider Houston-area presence, with the new Bellaire storefront marking its latest step.
