A 51-year-old Bellevue man is facing charges after neighbors physically pulled him out of a shattered window mid-break-in, then watched deputies spend 45 tense minutes coaxing him out of a nearby home early Thursday morning. The confrontation unfolded at the Bellevue Trailer Park in Convis Township and ended with a Taser deployment, a hospital visit, and a trip to the Calhoun County Jail.
According to WIN Country, the incident began around 1:56 a.m. when deputies responded to a breaking and entering in progress at the trailer park, located at 23915 15 Mile Road. The suspect, who was known to the residents, shattered a front window of the home and attempted to climb inside before neighbors intervened, physically pulling him out of the window and preventing him from getting any further.
Suspect Fled After Breaking Car Window
The man then broke a window of the victim's car before running off to his own residence nearby, as reported by WWMT. Investigators later recovered a large kitchen knife left behind at the scene. Deputies then went to the suspect's nearby residence, where he holed up as the standoff began.
Per the same account from the seed report, deputies saw movement inside the residence but the suspect ignored repeated commands to surrender. He holed up for about 45 minutes as deputies tried to coax him out, according to WOOD TV8. Nearly an hour in, deputies saw him crawling on the floor inside the home.
Standoff Ends With Taser, Hospital Visit
The suspect eventually went onto the front porch and continued to disregard commands. Deputies then deployed a Taser to take him into custody, the station's report states. He received immediate on-site medical attention from the Marshall Area Fire Fighters Ambulance Authority before being transported to Bronson Battle Creek Hospital for further evaluation.
He was then booked into the Calhoun County Jail on charges of home invasion, damage to property, and obstructing police, the outlet notes. Authorities have withheld his identity.
For now, the case stands as a reminder of how quickly a quiet trailer park night can turn into a standoff that pulls in neighbors, firefighters, and a Taser-wielding response from deputies.
