Bert’s SpeakCheezy is shutting the doors of its Berea storefront on Oct. 30, trading its brick-and-mortar spot at 124 S. Main St. for a full-time focus on the four food trucks that built the brand’s following in the first place. Owner Logan Bertrand confirmed the restaurant’s last day, saying rising costs and the challenge of running trucks and a storefront at once made the current setup unsustainable.
According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, Bertrand said higher gas and product prices made the business’s current plan unworkable, and that juggling both the trucks and the storefront had become difficult. He said he wants to focus on the work he loves rather than split his attention between formats. The gourmet grilled-cheese business describes itself as family-owned on its own site, and co-owners Brynnan and Logan Bertrand have run it together, according to theedgebereaky.com.
From Food Truck Roots to Boone Square Storefront
Bert’s SpeakCheezy started as a food truck before opening a storefront on North Broadway, then moved to College Square at the start of the year, the report notes. The business’s own website says that in addition to its food trucks, it has had a permanent location nestled in College Square in Berea, Kentucky. The Berea address at 124 S. Main Street was confirmed by theedgebereaky.com in an earlier report.

What Comes Next for the Trucks
Bertrand said the food trucks were what built the restaurant’s fan base to begin with, and going forward, Bert’s SpeakCheezy plans to lean harder into communication and social media to let customers know where its trucks are parked. He said he loves Berea and values the support the business received there over the past year and a half, and he hopes to open in Berea again someday.
For now, the storefront’s closing marks a return to the mobile-first model that started it all. Fans hoping to track down a Blind Pig or a Sinker after Oct. 30 will need to watch for truck locations rather than head to College Square.
