A pickup truck towing a trailer carrying three horses struck multiple parked vehicles late on Oct. 24, leading to the arrest of a 35-year-old man on charges including driving while intoxicated and endangering a child. Fernando Delagarza was taken into custody in Bexar County after deputies say his F-250 came to a stop just a short distance from where the crash happened.
According to WOAI, a caller reported that an F-250 towing a trailer hit multiple parked vehicles and then fled the scene. Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office made contact with the driver after arriving, because the truck had stopped several feet from where the collision occurred.
Delagarza was ultimately booked and charged following the investigation, per the sheriff's office account relayed in the report. He faces driving while intoxicated, a state jail felony, along with a charge of abandoning or endangering a child with intent, knowledge or recklessness, also a state jail felony. He additionally faces three misdemeanor counts of collision involving damage to a vehicle, one for each parked vehicle reportedly struck.
What the Charges Could Mean
Texas law treats intoxication offenses and leaving the scene of a crash as separate, stackable charges, and state statute spells out both the standard for driving while intoxicated under Texas Penal Code Section 49.04 and the elements of leaving a vehicle collision scene under the Texas Transportation Code. Child endangerment charges, meanwhile, fall under a separate section of the Texas Penal Code covering abandonment or endangerment committed with intent, knowledge or recklessness.
A Broader Pattern on Texas Roads
The case adds to a steady stream of impaired-driving arrests across the state. The Texas Department of Transportation has said that 1,254 people died on Texas roads because of impaired driving in 2025, a toll the agency describes as roughly three Texans killed each day, according to TxDOT. The agency's underlying 2024 crash data, compiled from Texas Peace Officer's Crash Reports, was still being processed as recently as last year, underscoring how these statistics often lag behind real-time incidents like the one involving Delagarza.
No further details about a court appearance or case disposition were available at the time of the report.
