BigXThaPlug turned a movie theater in Addison into an album launch pad on Monday, hosting an early listening party and short-film premiere for his fourth solo album, “Better Over Time.” Hometown fans got a first look at the 18-track project days before its Friday, Oct. 30 release. The rapper also performed “Give It All” for guests out in the theater lobby.

According to the Dallas Observer, the event at Cinemark kicked off a nationwide run of the film-and-listening experience. Fans got a movie-night setup with popcorn, drinks and theater treats, and after the film the rapper played the album from start to finish. The Observer reports that Houston, Miami, Charlotte and Los Angeles are next.

The Observer's account says the short film follows the rapper's life through his parents' eyes and ends on a cliffhanger. It also includes footage from a birthday bash BigXThaPlug threw with friends in South Dallas in May. The artist said the short film is only the start of something bigger he has planned for the theatrical project, and the audience called for it to land on streaming platforms.

A DJ Calls the Night Unprecedented for a Dallas Artist

BigXThaPlug's DJ, Dee “DJ Bubba” Brown, said the event was unprecedented for a Dallas artist. The listening experience gave his hometown crowd the first shot at the music, a move that fits an album built around his own story.

The record digs into claims that he “fell off,” fake friends, family issues and loneliness, per the Observer's reporting. It also explores the price of fame, and the Observer notes the eleventh track, “I Like It,” finds him rapping about plans to make pop music.

Guest List and the Road to Friday

The album's guests include GloRilla, Lil Yachty, Loe Shimmy, Leon Thomas and Fridayy, according to the Observer. “Faf” features GloRilla, “Heal Me” features Fridayy, and “No Limit” features Leon Thomas. Singles included September's “Lite,” featuring Belly Gang Kushington, and “Burn,” featuring Ava Max, and BroadwayWorld identified “LITE” as the first official single from the project.

The album was first teased in June, when a snippet of “Give It All” spread across social media, the Observer reports. By the time of the Addison screening, the rapper had piled up more than 10.7 billion global streams, The Source notes.

Back to Hip-Hop After a Country Detour

The record marks his solo return to hip-hop after chart-topping success in country with 2025's “I Hope You're Happy.” That project debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200, and The Source says it landed at No. 2 on the Country and Rap album charts. Billboard reported that “All the Way,” featuring Bailey Zimmerman, became the first track to reach No. 1 on both Hot Country Songs and Hot Rap Songs.

The crossover run also produced “Hell at Night,” featuring Ella Langley, which reached No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at No. 8 on Hot Country Songs, according to Lemonwire. Rolling Stone described the country project as a cross-pollination clearly intended to appeal to country listeners. Whether the Addison crowd's appetite for a streaming release turns into a wider rollout of the film is a question the rapper has so far answered only with his promise of something bigger.
