Sunny skies are in the forecast for Birmingham Wednesday, but the thermometer is headed somewhere else entirely: near 90 degrees by afternoon. There is no rain in the forecast, and the stretch of unseasonable warmth is setting up another day of near-record heat before a sharp weekend turnaround.
Air Quality Alert Adds A Wednesday Catch
A Code Orange air quality alert is in effect for Jefferson and Shelby counties through Wednesday afternoon, with ground-level ozone expected to reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups, according to the National Weather Service. Children and people with asthma are most at risk, so it is a good day to limit prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity, skip gas-powered lawn equipment, and move indoors if breathing becomes difficult.
Friday’s Front Brings The Real Change
Thursday stays sunny and warm, with a high near 89, but Friday’s dry cold front will bring gusty winds and little to no rain. Temperatures will fall sharply behind the front, turning Saturday into a much cooler, sunny day with a high near 69.
Saturday night drops to around 47 degrees, followed by a sunny high near 72 Sunday.
The broader setup was already flagged in Hoodline’s earlier forecast, but Wednesday’s air-quality alert is the immediate issue for people planning outdoor time. For now, residents should plan strenuous activities carefully, conserve electricity where possible, and avoid adding unnecessary emissions during the alert.
