Black Phin Coffee Bar has packed up its traditional metal phin filters and Vietnamese Robusta beans and is heading to a new home: an indoor playground on East Colonial Drive in Orlando. The shop served its last cups at its original spot inside Winter Park's Harmon Collective on October 11, and owners say the new café will reopen inside Bash & Brew at 2900 East Colonial Drive.
Black Phin announced the move itself, saying it is shifting its café operations to Bash & Brew, a family-friendly coffee shop and indoor playground located across from Fashion Square Mall near Maguire Boulevard, according to Bungalower. The shop will take over the existing café space inside Bash & Brew and reopen under its own name, per the same report. No official opening date has been announced yet.
Owners Saeng and Linda Khouvongsavanh built a loyal following for their coffee during their run at Harmon Collective, a converted light-industrial warehouse that also housed All Inclusive CrossFit and plant shop Kiwi & Fern, per Bungalower's earlier report on the departure. The warehouse at 1152 Harmon Avenue previously housed plant and home goods retailer The Heavy before opening as the multi-tenant collective around June 2025, the outlet noted. Saeng framed the exit as a fresh start rather than a closure, saying, “It's definitely not goodbye. We will 100% land on our feet somewhere soon.”
A New Chapter Brewing on Colonial Drive
Black Phin has teased the upcoming café as “a new chapter in coffee,” according to the publication's report. With Black Phin gone from Harmon Collective, Kiwi & Fern is stepping into the beverage role itself, announcing plans to launch its own Kiwi + Fern Coffee concept on October 17 inside the shared Winter Park warehouse, per a video posted to the plant shop's Facebook page.
Black Phin's specialty is 100% Vietnamese Robusta coffee brewed through traditional metal phin drip filters, a slow gravity-filtration method that yields roughly double the caffeine of standard Arabica coffee, according to Celebrate Lunar. The brand has also drawn national attention, with its traditional Vietnamese coffee preparation and culture featured live on Good Morning America, the outlet notes, adding that Black Phin has participated in major regional Asian cultural events across Central Florida.
Inside the Playground That Will House the Café
Bash & Brew was founded in September 2024 by husband-and-wife team TuMi Duong and Kha Tran as a dual-purpose indoor playground and coffee lounge, built so parents could relax while kids played safely, according to The Community Paper. The paper also described the difficulty parents can face balancing parenting with socializing and coffee outings. The 3,000-square-foot facility includes play structures, a bounce-house room and two rentable party rooms, and it also hosts children's birthday parties and other gatherings, according to Orlando Parenting, which notes that children are charged a timed admission fee while parents can move freely into the café seating.
Before partnering with Black Phin, Bash & Brew already served its own Vietnamese-inspired iced teas and coffees alongside homemade Vietnamese desserts baked weekly by Duong's mother, with family members frequently helping run daily operations, the Community Paper reported. That existing menu gives the new partnership a built-in cultural throughline, pairing a nationally recognized phin-brew specialist with a venue that was already leaning into Vietnamese flavors.
A High-Visibility Stretch of Colonial Drive
The new café will sit in a commercial corridor near Orlando Fashion Square Mall, a nearby landmark.
East Colonial Drive has continued drawing Asian dining and retail concepts, including Black Phin and Bash & Brew. The corridor connects downtown Orlando with several diverse east-side retail hubs, giving independent concepts like Black Phin and Bash & Brew a built-in path to new customers.
