A 31-year-old man ran to an office building at 55 Waugh Drive on Tuesday night after he was shot, and Houston police are still searching for whoever pulled the trigger. He told officers he had been at a nearby park but never saw the shooter and doesn't know why he was targeted. The man was in stable condition.
According to ABC13 Houston, the Houston Police Department responded to the Waugh Drive address at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. The man had gone to a security guard for help, saying he had been shot, and the guard called for help after watching him run inside the building.
Shot in the Side, Stable at the Hospital
Per FOX 26 Houston, the man was shot in the side near his lower rib cage and was in stable condition. Houston Fire Department crews treated him at the scene before taking him to an area hospital.
Lieutenant R. Willkens said officers arrived at a building on Waugh Drive near South Heights Boulevard, just north of Spotts Park and Buffalo Bayou. The lieutenant also said the gunshot wound looked to have been fired at close range. The station's report adds that the security guard called 911 immediately.
No Confirmed Crime Scene Yet
The victim told police he was at a nearby park when he was shot, but he did not see who shot him or why. Police have not confirmed the exact location where the shooting occurred, and ABC13 reports officers were canvassing the area to find a crime scene.
Houston police are searching for the suspect. The shooting happened late Tuesday night in the Washington Corridor, the same stretch where the department has handled other Waugh Drive shootings. No arrest has been announced.
An Earlier Waugh Drive Shooting
This isn't the first shooting police have investigated on the street. According to the City of Houston Newsroom, officers looked into a shooting at 700 Waugh Drive on July 2, in which a 36-year-old man was struck in the left shoulder during an altercation involving occupants of two other vehicles.
Nothing reported so far connects that earlier case to Tuesday's shooting. Anyone with information can contact HPD's Major Assaults & Family Violence Division at 713-308-8800 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, according to the city newsroom.
