Jacksonville is heading into a blustery Saturday, with cooler-than-usual temperatures, gusty north winds and a serious warning for anyone planning beach time. The city’s high should reach about 74 degrees before temperatures dip during the afternoon, while coastal waters become increasingly rough.

Windy Saturday Sets Up Rough Weekend

Saturday is expected to be generally dry, with gusty north-to-northeast winds. Saturday night will turn mostly cloudy with temperatures near 61 degrees and north winds around 20 mph, gusting as high as 30 mph, according to NWS Jacksonville.

Sunday looks cooler and even windier, with a high near 70 and north winds of 20 to 24 mph. Gusts could reach 35 mph, making exposed areas, bridges and outdoor plans feel noticeably less comfortable even though skies should remain partly sunny.

Beach Conditions Turn Dangerous

A high risk for rip currents is in effect along Northeast Florida beaches from Saturday morning through late Monday night. A High Surf Advisory begins Saturday night and continues into early Tuesday, with breakers of 8 to 10 feet expected and minor to moderate beach erosion possible around high tide.

Inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water, and anyone entering the surf should remain near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, float and move parallel to the shoreline rather than fighting directly against the current; beachgoers should also watch for minor tidal flooding around the Atlantic coast, Intracoastal Waterway and St. Johns River basin.

Clearer Skies Return Next Week

Monday will be mostly sunny with a high near 71, followed by a mostly clear night near 58 degrees. From Tuesday through Friday, Jacksonville should see mostly clear skies overall, though coastal low clouds are possible, highs in the mid to upper 70s and overnight lows around 59 degrees, with little chance of rain.
