A person was found dead of a gunshot wound inside a gray Lexus sedan parked on a Highway 330 shoulder turnout on Friday morning, prompting a California Highway Patrol investigation into the circumstances of the death. The vehicle was discovered between Highland Avenue and the City Creek Fire Station after a tow truck operator arrived on scene and found someone inside who was not moving.
According to Pain In The Pass, the incident was reported around 9:35 a.m. Friday, prompting CHP officers and a tow truck to be dispatched to the stretch of Highway 330. The gray sedan was found sitting on the right shoulder turnout of the highway, and the tow truck operator who arrived first on scene was the one who spotted the unresponsive person inside.
Once CHP officers arrived, they located a firearm near the victim, the outlet reported. CHP said the victim was pronounced deceased from a gunshot wound, though no further details about how the shooting occurred have been made public.
Investigation Now in CHP's Hands
The case will be handled by the California Highway Patrol's Inland Office, which is expected to lead the investigation going forward. As of Friday, no additional information about the death had been released, including any details on the identity of the victim or what led up to the discovery.
The same report noted it would be updated once CHP's preliminary incident report becomes available, which is standard practice for cases still in the early stages of investigation. Until that report surfaces, many of the key questions surrounding the death remain unanswered.
Area Has Seen Gunfire Incidents Before
Highway 330 has been the scene of at least one other shooting-related incident in recent memory. A report from ONSCENE.TV described a Highland man found with a gunshot wound on the highway in November 2025, after San Bernardino police and CHP responded to reports of a pedestrian down in the southbound lanes. That case was separate from Friday's discovery and involved different circumstances.
For now, the death off Highway 330 remains under investigation, with no further details confirmed about the victim or the events that preceded the shooting.
