A Southern-style fried chicken chain is staking a claim on Corpus Christi's Cimarron Boulevard, with state filings pointing to a 2,829-square-foot restaurant planned for 2809 Cimarron Blvd. The project, tied to Bojangles, lists an estimated cost of $1.8 million and a construction timeline that would run from early 2027 into the summer.
According to WhatNow, the filing is registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation under project number TABS2027004575. Construction is scheduled to begin January 4, 2027, with completion expected by June 30, 2027. The outlet notes those dates and the cost estimate are preliminary and subject to change, and the filing does not confirm an official opening date for the restaurant.
The project's paperwork lists Jingle Jangle RE LLC as the owner, with Terrence Thames named as the owner's contact, per the same filing. Charles William Pope and Associates, a San Antonio-based firm, is listed as the project's designer. The filing does not identify a tenant or spell out further operational details for the planned restaurant.
Part of a Broader Texas Push
Corpus Christi isn't the only South Texas city on Bojangles' radar. State filings also reveal plans for a Bojangles location in Weslaco, according to rgv.me, which describes a similarly sized 2,829-square-foot restaurant planned for 1075 E Interstate 2 at the same estimated $1.8 million cost. That project's construction is slated to begin July 5, 2027, with completion targeted for December 31, 2027, per the same report.
Thames is leading the expansion through Jingle Jangle LLC, the station's report on San Antonio-area growth indicates, with restaurants coming to both Corpus Christi and Weslaco in 2027. Bojangles' official expansion page also lists Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio among its Texas growth markets, the same coverage notes.
A Chain Rooted in the Carolinas
Bojangles was founded in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1977 and has grown into a regional fast-food fixture known for chicken biscuits, hand-breaded tenders, fried chicken, seasoned fries, dirty rice, coleslaw, and Bo-Berry biscuits spanning breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus. The chain's own count of its footprint varies: the company's official website cites more than 800 restaurants, while a separate report put the figure at nearly 800 locations across 17 states.
Comparable Bojangles filings elsewhere in Texas illustrate how project scopes can differ. One prior filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation described converting an existing fast-food restaurant into a Bojangles, estimated at $461,000 across 4,063 square feet. Another filing listed new construction of a Bojangles restaurant estimated at $900,000 across 2,989 square feet, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
For now, Corpus Christi residents curious about the Cimarron Boulevard site will have to wait. No tenant has been identified in the filing, and no further operational details, including an opening date, have been announced.
