Two commercial burglaries struck Bowie within roughly 20 minutes of each other in the predawn hours, and police are now asking the public to help identify the people responsible and a white Kia Sportage they believe is connected. The break-ins happened between 3:35 and 3:55 a.m. Wednesday, hitting businesses in the 6000 block of Highbridge Road and the 6900 block of Laurel-Bowie Road.
Bowie police asked the public to help identify suspects in the burglaries, according to WJLA. As part of that appeal, officers released surveillance images of the suspects along with images of the white Kia Sportage identified as a suspect vehicle. The department's bulletin laid out the burglaries' time and locations but stopped short of identifying which businesses were targeted or specifying what, if anything, was taken.
What Investigators Are — and Aren't — Saying
The gaps in the public bulletin leave plenty unanswered for now. Bowie police have not named the businesses hit on Highbridge Road or Laurel-Bowie Road, and they have not said whether the burglars got away with cash, merchandise or nothing at all, per the same report from WJLA. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Zittle, badge No. 0080, who works in the department's Criminal Investigations Section.
Tipsters can reach investigators directly at 240-544-5753, while those who want to remain anonymous can call 240-544-5770, the station notes. Prince George's County's broader crime-reporting apparatus, including the Joint Analysis Intelligence Center, handles the collection and analysis of crime data countywide, and the county also maintains an open-data portal tracking reported burglaries with specific addresses stripped out.
Part of a Broader Regional Pattern
Bowie's early-morning break-ins arrive amid a run of similar commercial burglaries reported elsewhere in the region in recent weeks. In Baltimore County, at least six commercial crimes were reported overnight at Dundalk Plaza, hitting businesses including America's Best Wings, Tropical Smoothie and Papa Johns, according to FOX Baltimore. That same stretch saw at least three more commercial crimes at Golden Ring Plaza, part of what the station described as a wave of similar incidents over the preceding days, with storefront glass doors shattered during the break-ins.
Howard County police separately investigated a string of overnight commercial burglaries spanning Oct. 11 and Oct. 12 across Columbia, Clarksville, Elkridge, Ellicott City, Fulton and Highland, FOX Baltimore reported. Authorities there said suspects broke a glass door or window to get into restaurants, liquor stores and gas stations, making off with cash, drinks, lottery tickets, a safe, alcohol, cigarettes, tobacco products and a cash register. A description of those suspects was not immediately made available.
It remains unclear whether the Bowie burglaries are linked in any way to those earlier incidents in Baltimore and Howard counties. For now, Bowie investigators are relying on the surveillance images of the suspects and the white Kia Sportage as their best leads, and they're counting on residents and business owners who may recognize either to come forward.
