A 38-year-old Bremen man died Monday after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 in Warrior shut down a stretch of the highway for hours. Nathan Dewayne Harris was taken to a nearby emergency room but could not be saved, according to authorities who are still investigating exactly how the wreck unfolded.

Harris was identified as the victim by WBRC, which reported he died at a hospital a short time after the crash, according to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office. The coroner's office also told AL.com that Harris was driving one of the vehicles involved in the crash. A separate report from Alabama's 42 News said Harris was the lone occupant of his car, which was involved in a crash with at least one other vehicle.

Accounts of exactly when and where the crash happened vary. WBRC reported the crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. at mile marker 238 on I-65 North, while ABC 3340 reported it happened around 5:35 a.m. near mile marker 283 in Jefferson County. Alabama's 42 News, meanwhile, reported the crash happened at about 5:30 p.m., also citing mile marker 238. The discrepancies between the reports have not been resolved.

Rushed to Gardendale ER, Pronounced Dead

Harris was taken to the UAB Medicine Freestanding Emergency Department in Gardendale, where he was pronounced dead at around 6:42 a.m. Monday, according to Alabama's 42 News. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating the crash, which involved multiple vehicles, per WBRC's report.

The wreck forced a lengthy closure of the interstate. ABC 3340 reported that traffic was diverted at Exit 282 while crews responded, and AL.com reported that the roadway reopened about 11 a.m. Monday.

Second I-65 Closure Hit Cullman County

The Warrior crash wasn't the only incident to snarl traffic on I-65. A separate multi-vehicle crash closed northbound I-65 near mile marker 317 in Cullman County, according to Rocket City Now. The station reported that the lanes remained closed Thursday morning. That crash happened at approximately 9:02 a.m., according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, and the station reported the closure was expected to last for an undetermined amount of time.

No further details about the cause of the Warrior crash, the other vehicles involved, or any potential charges have been released. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's investigation remains ongoing.
