Police are searching for a man accused of sexually abusing two women in separate incidents across the Bronx on Sept. 29, attacks that happened more than seven hours and about a mile and a half apart. Detectives say the first victim was groped aboard a city bus, while the second was accosted on a sidewalk later that evening before the suspect ran off.
According to News12, the first incident unfolded around 11 a.m. when the man approached a 24-year-old woman aboard a Bx1 bus near East 154th Street and Third Avenue. Detectives say he grabbed the woman's intimate parts and placed her fingers in his mouth before the encounter ended.
Second Attack Came Hours Later on Southern Boulevard
Just over seven hours after the bus incident, investigators say the same man groped an 18-year-old woman in front of 942 Southern Boulevard, grabbing her buttocks before fleeing the scene, per the same report. The two locations sit roughly one and a half miles apart, and the NYPD says neither woman was physically injured during the encounters.
Detectives have released a description of the suspect as they continue the search: a man believed to be between 30 and 35 years old, standing approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a black goatee. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, a black jacket with orange lining and a dark-colored baseball cap, the outlet's report notes.
Tips Sought as Case Remains Open
The NYPD is asking anyone with information to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). As of the report, no arrest had been announced in connection with the Sept. 29 incidents.
The case echoes another recent Bronx investigation detailed by NBC New York, in which Scott Haynes was arrested after police alleged he groped four women and a 13-year-old girl over roughly 10 days in the borough. In that case, three of the assaults reportedly took place on a Friday, and police claimed Haynes stole one victim's headphones during an attack. The 32-year-old ultimately faced charges including sexual abuse, forcible touching, harassment and robbery, according to the outlet.
That earlier arrest shows how these Bronx groping investigations can play out, though it remains a separate case from the Sept. 29 incidents still under investigation. For now, detectives are relying on the public to help identify the man described in the bus and sidewalk attacks.
