An 18-year-old Bronx man is facing three counts of attempted murder after police say he opened fire at an intersection in Mt. Eden last month, missing the person he was allegedly aiming at. No one was hurt and no property damage was reported, according to investigators.
Codelle Williams allegedly fired a weapon at Inwood Avenue and West 170th Street on September 22, according to News12 Bronx. Police say Williams aimed at an unidentified victim and missed. According to the NYPD, he now faces three counts of attempted murder along with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
The identity and condition of the person Williams allegedly targeted have not been disclosed. Investigators reported that the shooting caused no injuries and no property damage, the outlet's report states.
Part of a String of Bronx Teen Gun Cases
The Mt. Eden case lands amid a string of recent Bronx shootings involving young suspects. Just a day after the Inwood Avenue incident, News12 Bronx reported that four individuals were standing in front of a Fordham location when two of them allegedly opened fire on a person; that report identified one teen arrest, with three others still at large.
In August, a 14-year-old was charged with attempted murder after allegedly opening fire on a 17-year-old victim in Wakefield, according to law enforcement cited by the New York Daily News. And Gothamist reported arrests in two separate Bronx teen shooting deaths, one involving a 16-year-old boy and another involving a 48-year-old man, both charged with murder.
Citywide Numbers Show a Different Picture
The wave of youth-involved gun cases comes even as the NYPD has touted broad declines in shooting activity. Shooting incidents in August 2026 fell 20.8 percent compared with August 2025, from 77 to 61, while shooting victims dropped 37.7 percent, from 122 to 76, according to NYC.gov / NYPD figures. Major crime citywide was down 6.6 percent for the same month-over-month comparison, per the same release.
Earlier in the year, the department said Bronx major crime had fallen 15.5 percent in April compared with a year earlier and was down 11 percent year-to-date, with shooting incidents in the borough down 58 percent that month, according to an NYPD announcement tied to the launch of new Bronx North and Bronx South patrol boroughs. The NYPD has not released detailed September crime figures connecting those broader trends to the Mt. Eden case; a citywide CompStat report covering the week of September 21 through 27 was made available, but it does not include readable borough or precinct-level totals.
