Three unidentified attackers punched and kicked a 24-year-old woman throughout her body near East 167th Street and Clay Avenue in the Bronx before making off with her cellphone, according to police. The Sept. 26 daytime attack left the victim with minor injuries, though she declined medical treatment at the scene.
According to a NYPD Crime Stoppers wanted notice shared Wednesday, the assault happened at around 1:30 p.m. that Saturday when the three individuals approached the woman and engaged her in a verbal dispute. That confrontation escalated into a physical altercation, with the attackers punching and kicking her before snatching her phone, which police valued at approximately $830, as reported by shorenewsnetwork.com.
The three suspects then fled on foot, heading northbound on Clay Avenue toward parts unknown, per the same account. No arrests had been announced as of the Oct. 28 public alert, more than a month after the robbery occurred.
NYPD Asks Public for Tips
Investigators are asking anyone with information to come forward, requesting tips be sent by direct message to @NYPDTips or by calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), the Crime Stoppers post states. The notice did not include suspect descriptions or photographs, and the woman's identity has not been disclosed.
The attack adds to a string of robbery concerns in the surrounding Claremont area. Bronx detectives earlier investigated a separate pattern of 13 robberies between Jan. 11 and May 11 in and around Claremont Park, according to the Bronx Times. In those cases, police said groups of men and teenagers — some armed with guns and knives — targeted park visitors of all ages, making off with thousands of dollars in cellphones, AirPods, cash, watches and clothing. Two of those earlier incidents left victims with facial pain and bruising, and police have since arrested four people connected to that spree while still searching for two others.
Mixed Signals on Bronx Crime Trends
It remains unclear how the September robbery fits into broader crime patterns in the borough. Limited NYPD statistics cited figures showing robberies down 29.1% in certain deployment zones during specific hours, with the steepest drop concentrated in the Bronx, where major crime fell 30.5% in those same zones, according to figures published by nyc.gov. The underlying reporting periods and geographic boundaries behind those numbers were not fully specified in the available data, so they should not be read as a complete picture of citywide or borough-wide trends.
For now, the Sept. 26 attack near Clay Avenue remains unsolved, with police relying on public tips as they work to identify the three people involved.
