Brookfield's Wirth Park Athletic Complex is undergoing a renovation, with work underway across the park.
The update came by way of a Facebook post Tuesday from Brookfield WI Parks, Recreation & Forestry, which described the renovation as well underway and said teams will return to the fields in 2027.
The project aims to turn the existing four-field baseball and softball complex into what the city calls a premier sports destination for youth and adult athletics, according to the city's official project page. Three of the existing fields are being converted to turf infields, while a fourth is being rebuilt entirely as a full-turf, multi-use facility capable of hosting more than one sport.
What's Coming to All Four Fields
The broader scope of the renovation includes new perimeter fencing, safety netting, dugouts, field lighting on all four fields, scoreboards and batting cages, per the city. The complex will also get restroom facilities and a concession stand once construction wraps.
When finished, the fields are designed to host baseball, softball, soccer and lacrosse games, leagues and tournaments, the city's page states. Brookfield is inviting organizations to submit an interest form to help gauge demand for field space.
Brookfield’s plan has a nearby counterpart: the City of Pewaukee’s sports complex has four baseball diamonds with synthetic-turf infields and hosts tournaments. The fields were converted from natural dirt-and-grass infields in 2022, in a project valued at $1.6 million by the engineering firm that worked on the conversion. Pewaukee’s city sports-complex page describes the facility’s tournament use, offering a local example of how turf diamonds can serve both regular play and events.
Contracts and a Budget Bump Behind the Build
The construction push traces back to a round of Common Council actions on June 2, 2026. According to the Brookfield Common Council minutes, the council approved an $876,000 increase to the project's construction budget that day and awarded the general site-construction contract to H&H Civil Construction LLC for $4,464,892.35.
The city’s capital plan lists $9.9 million for Wirth Park field-turf installation, with city borrowing identified as the funding source. The plan notes that the complex has mainly been used in summer and projects that turf could make it available from March through December. It also says rentals have the potential to cover up to half of the debt service annually—an estimate, not a guaranteed return. Those projections frame the renovation as both a longer-season recreation investment and a facility expected to generate rental revenue, the city’s capital-improvement plan says.
That same meeting saw the council award a synthetic-turf construction contract to Sprinturf LLC worth $965,267.48 and a field-lighting contract to Musco Sports Lighting for $778,742, the minutes show. Council members also authorized city staff to directly purchase equipment for the project, officially listed as Project #PR-266, for up to $286,000.
The paper trail stretches back further than this year's construction contracts. Citizen Portal's coverage of the Brookfield Parks and Recreation Commission notes the project moved from engineering planning in January 2025 to the construction and budget actions approved last year, reflecting a roughly year-and-a-half runway before dirt started moving at the park.
The planning phase included choosing a design and engineering consultant before construction contracts were awarded. In a January 2025 staff memo, Brookfield said it had received five proposals and ranked Rettler Corporation first. The requested work included developing concept designs and cost estimates, preparing construction-bid documents and providing construction inspection services. That early step was intended to assess upgrade options before the city moved into final design and construction, the Parks and Recreation Commission memo states.
Construction Timeline
This week's Facebook update said teams will be back on the fields in 2027 after the current off-season buildout concludes.
The project timeline sets out a future construction start and completion.
