A man was shot in the foot on Landon Street in Buffalo on Tuesday afternoon, sending him to ECMC and prompting police to appeal for information as they piece together exactly what happened. Officers first responded to a shooting call around 1:30 p.m. near the 400 block of East Utica Street before determining the actual scene was on the first block of Landon Street.
According to WIVB News 4, Buffalo police officers responded to the shooting call at the 400 block of East Utica Street before their investigation led them to the first block of Landon Street, which police determined was the actual scene of the shooting. Officers found an adult male victim with a gunshot wound to the foot, and he was transported to ECMC for treatment, the station reported.
Police Seek Tips as Investigation Continues
No arrest or suspect information has been released in connection with Tuesday's shooting. Buffalo police asked anyone with information to call or text 911, and the department also provided its confidential tip line, 716-847-2255, for residents who may have details but prefer not to go through 911 directly.
The shooting adds to a year in which Buffalo has logged more shooting reports than it did over the same stretch in 2025, even as some of the city's most serious violent crime statistics have moved in the opposite direction. The department reported 84 shooting incidents and 101 shooting victims between January and September 2026, up from 73 incidents and 83 victims during the same period a year earlier, according to Yahoo News.
A Mixed Picture on Violent Crime
Despite the rise in shooting reports, other measures of violence in Buffalo have trended downward this year. The same Yahoo News report notes that homicides fell 16%, from 19 to 16, between January and September 2025 and the same period in 2026, while people killed in shootings dropped from 14 to 12 and overall violent crimes fell from 1,500 to 1,376.
City officials have pointed to longer-term numbers to argue that Buffalo's gun violence remains well below historical norms. As of August 24, the city had recorded 71 shooting incidents and 86 shooting victims, with shooting incidents up about 4% and shooting victims up about 10% compared with the same point in 2025, per Buffalo Toronto Public Media. That same report found this year's shooting incidents were 46% below the city's 10-year average and 40% below its five-year average.
East Utica Street's Troubled Past
The initial dispatch to East Utica Street echoes a far more serious case from nearly three years earlier. On January 30, 2024, Buffalo Police investigated a deadly shooting at a home on East Utica Street near the Utica Metro Bus & Rail Station, according to WGRZ. In that earlier incident, one victim was pronounced dead at the home and a 24-year-old Buffalo man later died at ECMC; police described that shooting as targeted in nature but did not identify a motive, the station reported.
No connection between that 2024 case and Tuesday's shooting on Landon Street has been established. For now, investigators are focused on determining what led to the gunfire that sent a man to the hospital with a wound to his foot, and they continue to ask anyone with information to come forward.
