Tucson is waking to clear skies Thursday, but the calm will not last. The city should reach about 85 degrees before east winds strengthen overnight, setting up a potentially dangerous stretch of weather through Friday and into Saturday.

High Winds Arrive Overnight

The National Weather Service in Tucson says a High Wind Warning begins Thursday at 11 p.m. and continues through Friday at 11 p.m. NWS Tucson expects east to southeast winds of 30 to 45 mph in the warning area, with gusts reaching 50 to 70 mph.

For Tucson, Friday is forecast to have a high near 78 degrees, with gusts as high as 47 mph. Blowing dust may lower visibility and make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Saturday Stays Windy Before A Warmer Turn

Winds should ease somewhat Friday night and Saturday, but a Wind Advisory remains in effect from 11 p.m. Friday through 2 p.m. Saturday. Saturday will be mostly cloudy with a high near 76, east winds of 15 to 22 mph and gusts up to 35 mph, followed by a 20% chance of rain showers late Saturday night.

Sunday looks quieter and sunnier, with a high near 83 degrees. Monday and Tuesday are expected to be sunny, with highs of 86 and 85 degrees.

What Tucson Residents Should Do

Secure patio furniture, trash cans and other loose items before winds increase Thursday night. Officials also advise extra caution on the road and warn that strong winds could lead to downed trees and power poles, with scattered outages possible.
