Great Lake Swimmers, the indie-folk act led by Tony Dekker, is listed to play Tuffy's Music Box & Lounge in Sanford on October 17 at 8 p.m., part of a U.S. fall tour. The band has been making records for more than two decades, and this stop puts that long, quietly atmospheric career on a Sanford stage.
The Sanford date comes from an AXS listing for Tuffy's Music Box & Lounge, which shows Great Lake Swimmers performing there that Saturday night. Orlando Weekly covered the show in its This Little Underground music column, and the band's visit lands amid a busy stretch of touring for the group.
Orlando Weekly places the band within the early-2000s indie-folk wave, and its music blends acoustic instruments, rural soundscapes and wistful vocals. The band's self-titled debut was recorded in an Ontario grain silo.
New Album Caught Light Anchors the Tour
The band's ninth studio album, Caught Light, came out October 10, and was recorded in just five days in Ontario's Ganaraska Forest with producer Darcy Yates and engineer Jimmy Bowskill, according to the band's press materials. That quick, forest-bound recording session fits the group's long-running reputation for atmospheric, rurally rooted production.
The band's U.S. fall tour is scheduled for October and November.
A Career Built on Prize Nods and Steady Output
Great Lake Swimmers have been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize and nominated twice for Canada's Juno Awards, according to the band's press materials. The band's website says it was more than 20 years into its career in 2025 and that Dekker moved back to the Niagara region during the pandemic after years based in Toronto.
Fans looking to catch the band's atmospheric brand of folk close to home will want to watch Tuffy's Music Box & Lounge directly for ticketing updates ahead of the October 17 date.
