A car veered off southbound Interstate 459 and into the woods near the Acton Road exit, prompting Rocky Ridge Fire crews to work an extrication to free people trapped inside the vehicle. The right lane of the interstate was blocked as crews worked the scene, and drivers were urged to use caution in the area.
The crash happened just before the Acton Road exit on I-459 southbound, according to WBMA, which reported that Rocky Ridge Fire units were actively working to extricate people after the car left the roadway and ended up in the trees lining the highway. The outlet's report included a photo credited to the Rocky Ridge Fire Department, though details on the number of people involved or the extent of any injuries were not included in the report.
Lane Blocked as Crews Worked the Scene
With the right lane blocked on southbound I-459, drivers heading through the area were told to proceed with caution while emergency crews handled the extrication. It was not immediately clear from the report how long the lane closure lasted or when it reopened to traffic.
This stretch of I-459 near Acton Road and the broader Hoover corridor has seen other crash responses in recent months. In a separate incident near Hoover, crews found a red Ford pickup truck that had flipped onto its roof, and the Rocky Ridge Fire Department said one person suffered minor injuries, according to WVTM 13. That report described two lanes remaining blocked at the wreck site as crews worked to clear the area and remove the truck, a lane-closure count that differs from the single blocked lane described in the Acton Road crash.
Other Recent Incidents Along the Same Corridor
The same stretch of I-459 near the Acton Road exit was also the site of a three-vehicle crash involving a car, a box truck and a tractor-trailer, the station reported. Three lanes of the interstate were closed in that incident while hazmat crews responded to an estimated 30- to 50-gallon hydraulic-fluid spill, per the same account.
Elsewhere along the interstate, a five-car wreck was reported on I-459 South just before the I-65 interchange. Emergency units from the Rocky Ridge Fire District, including engines, rescue trucks and command vehicles, responded to that scene, and the right two lanes of the interstate were closed while crews worked to clear it, WBMA reported in a separate article. A 2025 report from the Trussville Tribune also noted that a multi-vehicle crash had closed the southbound lanes of I-459 near Hoover, though it is not established whether these various incidents reflect any broader pattern on the roadway.
No information was available on the cause of the Acton Road crash, the number of people involved, or whether anyone was injured. Drivers in the area were advised to remain cautious as emergency crews continued their work at the scene.
