A car crashed into Kwench Raleigh, a juice café at the Falls Pointe Shopping Center in North Raleigh, on Sunday morning, prompting the business to announce an indefinite closure the very next day. No one involved in the crash suffered severe injuries, and two dogs that were inside the car at the time were recovered safely.
Raleigh police received the call about the crash at 9:28 a.m. on Sunday, according to The News & Observer. The department's public affairs office told the paper that the two dogs inside the vehicle were okay following the impact. Kwench Raleigh announced the following Monday that it would close indefinitely due to structural damage to the building.
The café sits at 9660 Falls of Neuse Road inside Falls Pointe Shopping Center, a neighborhood retail hub anchored by Kohl's and Harris Teeter alongside smaller service businesses and fast-casual restaurants, according to Falls Pointe Dentistry. The shopping center sits along a stretch of Falls of Neuse Road that is a densely developed suburban retail corridor in North Raleigh.
A Juice Brand With Deep Roots and a Local Storefront
Kwench has built customer loyalty around its products. The company's offerings include juices, smoothies, and bowls.
Kwench was founded by Chris Gregoris, who said the brand was built around healthy options that preserve convenience and taste. The company has locations in Massachusetts, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Colorado, and Wisconsin.
Operator Error and Pedal Error in National Data
What caused the driver to crash into the storefront has not been detailed in reporting so far, but national data offers some context on how these incidents typically happen. Operator error accounts for 22% and pedal error for 17% of vehicle-into-building crashes in the 2014–2024 statistics from the Storefront Safety Council, totaling 39%.
Storefront crashes are not rare occurrences. Motor vehicles crash into commercial buildings and public structures more than 100 times per day across the United States, the Storefront Safety Council's national crash data shows. Older estimates cited by McCue Corporation put the annual toll at up to 4,000 injuries and 500 deaths. Industry data published by McCue Corporation found that 24% of storefront vehicle crashes happen at retail stores and 23% at commercial buildings, making retail strip centers like Falls Pointe among the most frequent sites for this type of incident.
Falls of Neuse Road's Recent Traffic Safety Scrutiny
The corridor has drawn safety attention before. A fatal pedestrian crash near East Millbrook Road in March 2026 underscored ongoing safety challenges along the busy North Raleigh thoroughfare, as Hoodline previously reported. That crash remains part of a broader pattern of traffic incidents along Falls of Neuse Road that has kept the corridor under scrutiny through the year.
Open Questions on Cause, Cost, and Prevention
Whether the Kwench crash stemmed from driver pedal error or a mechanical fault has not been determined. Also unknown is the timeline and estimated cost for structural remediation at the storefront, and whether property managers at Falls Pointe will consider installing protective measures to prevent similar intrusions in the future. ASTM F3016-19-certified bollards can stop a 5,000-pound surrogate vehicle traveling at 30 mph or less while limiting penetration to 12 inches from the impact side of the front bumper, according to Gibraltar Perimeter Security, a protective measure for commercial parking lots facing glass storefronts.
The crash adds to a season of disruption for businesses along Falls of Neuse Road. Another North Raleigh business on the same corridor, Bloom Collective café inside Modern Apotheca at 8604 Falls of Neuse Road, announced its own permanent closure this month, citing impending federal hemp regulatory changes rather than any physical damage. For now, Kwench Raleigh remains shuttered indefinitely as the juice café assesses the structural damage from Sunday's crash.
