A new wildfire broke out in Humboldt County on Tuesday morning, with fire officials reporting no information yet on what sparked the blaze or how much of it has been contained. The fire, dubbed the Cedar Fire, was first reported at 10:57 a.m.
According to The Sacramento Bee, the Cedar Fire is burning on private land in Humboldt County. As of Tuesday, the cause of the fire had yet to be determined, and there was no information available on its containment, according to a separate report from modbee.com. The National Interagency Fire Center was listed as the source of the report.
Second Fire in the County in Two Days
The Cedar Fire's emergence comes just a day after another blaze, the Walnut Fire, was reported in Humboldt County. A search-result snippet from the Fresno Bee indicated that fire was reported at 10:23 a.m. Monday, also burning on private land, with containment status unknown and the cause not established in the available snippet. It remains unclear whether the two fires are connected in any way, and no further details on the Walnut Fire's status could be confirmed.
The back-to-back reports arrive even as a federal wildfire outlook noted that overall wildfire activity had eased somewhat across northern California. A seasonal outlook snippet attributed to the National Interagency Fire Center stated that wildfire business decreased in northern California during September compared to August.
How Residents Can Track Evacuation Information
Humboldt County has long flagged wildfire as a hazard facing the region, noting on its official website that it maintains resources and preparedness tips for residents to use before, during, and after a fire. The county points residents toward the CAL FIRE Current Emergency Incidents Map, which displays ongoing emergency responses statewide, including any wildfire of 10 acres or larger.
For anyone trying to determine whether they are in harm's way, the county also recommends Genasys Protect, an online interactive mapping platform residents can use to find their evacuation zone and access emergency information. Per the county's definitions, an evacuation order is a lawful directive requiring immediate departure due to an immediate threat to life.
No evacuation orders, road closures, injuries, or damaged structures connected to the Cedar Fire have been confirmed at this time. Hoodline will update this story as more information becomes available.
