Cedar Hill is building Legacy Dog Park, a four-acre space planned for dogs and their owners.
The Legacy Dog Park project is a partnership between Cedar Hill and Trinity Church.
The Project's Timeline
Construction began on May 12, 2026, and is expected to wrap up by the end of the year, according to cedarhilltx.com.
The city says Trinity Church is leasing the land to Cedar Hill for one dollar. The site is across the street from the Tri-City Animal Shelter, a location the city noted when construction began.
The Shelter’s Role
The city has highlighted the shelter’s proximity to the park. Separately, Cedar Hill’s Tri-City Animal Shelter & Adoption Center says it holds stray animals for 72 hours to give owners time to reclaim them.
What the Park Will Offer
Plans call for separate play areas for small and large dogs, shaded seating, pet-friendly landscaping and connected sidewalks, according to the city’s project account. City officials have also described the park as a place for recreation and community connection, with an opportunity to raise awareness about pet adoption.
The planned Legacy Dog Park will add to Cedar Hill's parks system.
