Emergency crews swarmed Crottlestown Road near the Twin Bridge Campground in Chambersburg on Sunday evening after an e-bike was struck by a vehicle, prompting a medical helicopter to be requested for possible patient transport. Fire crews had the scene cleared again in under an hour, but the circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police.
According to WGAL, the crash happened just after 5 p.m. on Crottlestown Road near the campground, with one person reported injured and transported to the hospital via helicopter. A separate report from Local 21 News pegged the dispatch time at around 5:16 p.m. in the 3700 block of Crottlestown Road and said it was unclear at that point whether any injuries had been reported. The two outlets' accounts of the injury status differ, and neither detail has been independently confirmed beyond what each station reported.
The Franklin Fire Company reportedly said the e-bike was struck by a vehicle, though no further mechanics of the collision have been released. Whether anyone was ultimately transported by air remains unclear, and the overall injury count and severity have not been confirmed, according to Tri-State Alert.
Fire Crews Clear Scene Quickly as Troopers Take Over
Despite the uncertainty around injuries, the response itself moved fast. Fire crews cleared the scene in under an hour. Pennsylvania State Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, and no additional details have been released about the rider, the driver, or any potential citations.
The crash adds to a string of recent e-bike incidents in Franklin County. In a separate case reported by abc27, crews responded to the Route 11 pit stop on Philadelphia Avenue for a crash involving an e-bike and a tractor-trailer at around 4 p.m. The male rider in that incident was transported to an area trauma center, and his condition was unknown at last report.
Investigation Still Open
No official statement from Pennsylvania State Police had been released as of the latest reporting, and authorities have not provided additional details about either the rider's condition or how the crash unfolded. For now, the Crottlestown Road case remains an open investigation, with troopers working to piece together what led to the e-bike being struck near the Twin Bridge Campground.
