Charleston starts Thursday with clear skies and a crisp feel before sunshine pushes temperatures toward 74 degrees. The forecast is dry from morning through evening, giving the Lowcountry a comfortable fall day before a much windier coastal pattern settles in this weekend.
Overnight lows will range from the lower to middle 40s inland to the upper 50s or near 60 at the beaches. Friday stays sunny but cooler, with a high near 69 and increasing northeast winds, according to the National Weather Service.
Weekend Winds Raise Coastal Hazards
Saturday and Sunday will remain mostly sunny, with highs around 72 degrees, but northeast winds will become the main story. Strong, gusty northeast flow is expected.
The stronger flow will increase the risk of dangerous rip currents, high surf and beach erosion along the coast. Coastal flooding could also become more widespread from the weekend into early next week, with the most significant impacts expected around high tide.
Sunny Weather Holds Into Next Week
Monday and Tuesday should stay dry with abundant sunshine, while overnight lows remain below normal inland and warmer near the beaches. The biggest tidal cycles of the year are expected Tuesday and Wednesday, when rising astronomical tides could add to flooding concerns in Charleston-area coastal neighborhoods.
Highs should return to near normal by midweek. Boaters should prepare for rougher water beginning Friday, while beachgoers should check surf and rip-current conditions before heading out this weekend.
