The owners of Eagle's Nest Rockin' Country Bar in Chesapeake are fighting back in court after state regulators suspended the venue's alcohol license following a violent fight that began inside the bar and spilled into a nearby shopping center parking lot, injuring a patron. The suspension, which documents show took effect September 22, has already cost the Greenbrier district venue tens of thousands of dollars and left dozens of employees without paychecks.

According to WAVY.com, the owners filed an emergency motion arguing that the Virginia ABC Authority lacked the legal authority to issue the suspension because the altercation that injured a patron occurred in a shopping center parking lot that Eagle's Nest neither owns nor leases. That distinction matters because Virginia Code § 4.1-225.1 allows the state's Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to summarily suspend a license, without a prior hearing, when special agents find reasonable cause that violence causing death or serious bodily injury, or a recurrence of such violence, occurred on licensed premises, certain immediately adjacent property, or immediately adjacent public property, and the Board finds a continuing threat to public safety and that suspension is justified to protect the public, according to Virginia law.

What the Suspension Statute Actually Allows

The same statute dictates that an emergency summary suspension must remain in effect for a mandatory minimum of 48 hours, after which a licensee can petition the ABC Board for a restricted license while formal disciplinary proceedings play out, per Virginia law. The board also has discretion to grant conditional operating privileges based on safety measures a licensee proposes.

The case is set to come before the ABC Board on October 7, when Eagle's Nest owners will formally challenge the suspension, the station's report notes. Until then, the 18,000-square-foot venue at 1723 Parkview Drive remains shut down, and its roughly 50 employees remain out of work.

Mounting Police Calls Preceded the Shutdown

The suspension did not come out of nowhere. Chesapeake Police Department data cited by WAVY show officers responded to 182 calls for service at Eagle's Nest over the preceding six months, roughly one call per day. Separately, a 2025 DUI crash involved a driver with a blood alcohol content of 0.249.

Eagle's Nest is a venue in Chesapeake's Greenbrier district. The facility includes multiple rooms, per a Wanderlog venue listing.

Club Section Permanently Closed as Venue Shut for Renovations

In late September, Eagle's Nest permanently closed its club section and temporarily closed the entire facility for renovations.

For now, the financial toll keeps climbing. Owners say the suspension is costing them approximately $75,000 a week in lost revenue, with nearly 50 employees sitting idle while the case heads toward its October 7 hearing before the Virginia ABC Board.
