A 73-year-old Chico woman has not been seen since Monday afternoon. The Butte County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to help locate Roberta Greene, who was last spotted near East 20th Street and Forest Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Monday.
The sheriff's office requested a Silver Alert on Greene's behalf, and that alert has since been issued in Colusa, Yolo and Napa counties, according to Action News Now. Greene is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue floral shirt, a camo vest, blue jeans and black shoes.
Possible Vehicle Could Be Key to Locating Her
Deputies believe Greene may be driving a 2001 gray Subaru Forester bearing license plate 9EQC533, per the sheriff's office. The Silver Alert also covers Colusa, Yolo and Napa counties. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call 911.
How California's Silver Alert System Works
The statewide framework behind this kind of search dates back more than a decade. The California Silver Alert Program was created through Senate Bill 1047, becoming law in 2012 when lawmakers added section 8594.10 to the California Government Code, the California Highway Patrol notes. The program exists specifically to give the public immediate information that can aid in the swift recovery of at-risk individuals who meet its criteria, the agency says.
That system is now in motion across four counties as the search for Greene continues. Residents in Chico, as well as Colusa, Yolo and Napa counties, are being urged to watch for the gray Subaru Forester and to report any sightings of Greene or her vehicle immediately.
