Columbus is waking Saturday under mostly cloudy skies, with clouds possibly lingering through the afternoon before clearing by evening and a high near 54. The bigger concern arrives overnight, when temperatures plunge toward freezing and a Freeze Warning takes effect early Sunday. Tender plants and exposed outdoor plumbing could be vulnerable before the weekend is over.
After Friday’s wet, windy weather, the forecast now points to a chilly Saturday night. The National Weather Service issued the warning for Sunday morning, adding a new safety concern to the weekend outlook covered in Hoodline’s Friday forecast.
Saturday Turns Brighter But Stays Chilly
Clouds could linger through the afternoon before clearing by evening, with north winds and gusts reaching 24 mph. The breeze will keep the afternoon feeling cooler than the thermometer suggests.
Freeze Warning Covers Sunday Morning
The Freeze Warning runs from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday, when temperatures are expected to fall to around 32 degrees. Sheltered parts of the Columbus area could briefly dip into the upper 20s, making this a night to cover or move tender plants and protect any vulnerable outdoor pipes.
Frost Gives Way To A Sunny Warm-Up
Sunday begins with widespread frost before 10 a.m., followed by sunny skies and a high near 61. Monday morning could bring another round of frost, but afternoon temperatures should recover to about 66.
The workweek then turns noticeably milder and stays dry. Highs are forecast near 70 Tuesday, 71 Wednesday and 71 Thursday and Friday, with mostly sunny skies and relatively light winds.
