A new Chipotle Mexican Grill is set to open next Monday at 5626 George Washington Memorial Highway in York County's Grafton area, bringing a drive-thru pickup lane and roughly 30 new jobs to the growing commercial corridor. The Oct. 26 debut lands just months after a Chick-fil-A opened right next door.
According to The Virginian-Pilot, the new location will include a drive-thru pickup lane, a feature that has become increasingly common for Chipotle as it expands into suburban corridors. The same report notes the restaurant is hiring about 30 employees to staff the Grafton location.
Diners heading to the new spot will find two limited-time menu items on offer: Pollo Asado and Chili Lime Chips, per the company release cited in that report. Those items aren't new to the Chipotle menu nationally — the chain announced what it called its first-ever simultaneous launch of two limited-time items back on Aug. 31, according to the Chipotle Newsroom.
How Pollo Asado and Chili Lime Chips Rolled Out Nationwide
Pollo Asado became available to all guests across the United States and Canada starting Aug. 31, the company said in its announcement. Chili Lime Chips took a slightly different path to wide release: they were initially exclusive to Chipotle Rewards members before becoming available to all guests on Sept. 4, the same release notes.
Chipotle has also pointed to a broader snack trend behind the chips' debut. The chain said mentions of seasoned chips paired with its entrees have increased more than 1,500% across social platforms since 2022, according to the newsroom post.
Grafton's Drive-Thru Corridor Keeps Growing
The Chipotle opening adds to a wave of drive-thru development reshaping the Grafton stretch of George Washington Memorial Highway. The Virginian-Pilot's report notes that Cook Out is planning a location at 4340 George Washington Memorial Highway, across from Wendy's, though no opening date has been announced.
Beverage chains are moving into the area too. Dutch Bros Coffee is planning another shop in the Grafton area on George Washington Memorial Highway near Chick-fil-A, the Virginian-Pilot reported separately — though, as with Cook Out, no opening date has been set. That follows Dutch Bros' first Virginia location opening Oct. 16 at 796 Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach, and a special-use permit application the company filed in March for a site at 496 McLaws Circle in Williamsburg.
Meanwhile, 7 Brew is also eyeing York County, with engineering plans dated Jan. 16 showing a double drive-thru design, according to the Williamsburg Independent. The outlet describes 7 Brew as a quick-service beverage chain with more than 600 locations nationwide and 13 in Virginia.
For now, the Chipotle opening marks the latest concrete addition to a corridor that's seen a steady build-out of quick-service options since the Chick-fil-A restaurant began serving the Grafton-area community on May 21, according to a Chick-fil-A announcement. Whether the planned Cook Out, Dutch Bros and 7 Brew locations open this year or next remains to be seen.
