Cleveland woke to mostly cloudy skies and temperatures near 70 degrees Tuesday morning, but the city is headed for an unusually hot afternoon. The high could reach 84 degrees before a stormy, much colder pattern takes over later this week.
Tuesday’s temperature would top Cleveland’s October 13 record high of 82 degrees, set in 1969. Southwest winds will run 12 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, while the National Weather Service says no local watches or warnings are currently posted.
Storms Return Before A Bigger Friday Turn
Skies may be clear earlier Tuesday night, but rain and storms are forecast later overnight. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms arrives after daybreak Wednesday. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Wednesday before 4 p.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a cooler high near 71 degrees.
Thursday offers only a brief break before rain showers become possible after 2 p.m. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread Thursday night, with an 80% chance of precipitation before a stronger system moves through Friday.
Friday looks like the week’s biggest weather headache, bringing rain showers, a high near 62 degrees and sharply stronger northwest winds. Gusts could approach 40 mph, according to the forecast discussion, making for a wet and blustery commute and a rough day for outdoor plans.
Sunny Weekend Brings A Serious Temperature Drop
Rain showers could linger into Friday night as temperatures fall into the 30s by Saturday morning. Saturday turns mostly sunny but breezy, with a high near 53, followed by a sunny Sunday near 62 degrees.
The broader Northeast Ohio region could see frost or freezing temperatures by Sunday morning, especially away from the moderating influence of Lake Erie. The fast shift is a substantial update from the quieter setup in Hoodline’s earlier Cleveland forecast, with record heat now giving way to rain, strong winds and the coldest air of the season so far.
