A 68-year-old Coldspring man is facing a menacing charge after deputies say he was screaming deadly threats from inside his vehicle on Bunker Hill Road on Tuesday night. Todd Samples was taken into custody at 8:04 p.m. and now has a court date to answer for the allegations.
According to Newport Dispatch, deputies responded to a call regarding a male screaming deadly threats from his vehicle. Investigators identified Samples as the suspect based on prior circumstances, the outlet reported, though the account does not detail the exact threats allegedly made, describe the vehicle, or specify whether a particular person was targeted.
Samples was charged with menacing in the third degree, per the report, and issued an appearance ticket for Coldspring Town Court. The arrest was attributed to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office, which operates a police blotter listing agency activity in the area.
A Familiar Name on Bunker Hill Road
This is not the first time Samples has drawn law enforcement attention on the same stretch of roadway. An earlier report noted that 68-year-old Todd Samples of Coldspring was taken into custody on a Monday following an investigation into criminal nuisance.
In that case, the sheriff's office said Samples was seen putting construction nails into the roadway on Bunker Hill Road in April, causing what deputies described as a nuisance to the public and residents of Coldspring, the same report noted. He was processed without incident at the time and issued appearance tickets for Cold Spring Local Criminal Court at a later date, according to the same account.
A separate report from Chautauqua Today on that earlier case said Samples was charged with criminal nuisance and criminal tampering following the investigation into the reported nuisance in the Town of Cold Spring. It remains unclear whether that case and the new menacing charge are legally connected, as the available reporting does not address any link between the two matters.
What Comes Next
No court record, bail information, or case disposition has been made public for the menacing charge, and there has been no confirmed response from Samples or an attorney representing him. He is due to appear in Coldspring Town Court to answer the charge stemming from Tuesday's incident on Bunker Hill Road.
