A person showed up at a Columbus hospital Wednesday afternoon with a gunshot wound after driving themself there following a shooting near Parsons and East Livingston avenues. Police said the adult victim is in stable condition and expected to survive, and officers are now trying to track down whoever pulled the trigger.

The Columbus Division of Police received a call about a person with an apparent gunshot wound around 1:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to 10TV. The victim told officers they had been shot near the intersection of Parsons and East Livingston avenues before driving to a nearby hospital for treatment. Columbus police Sergeant James Fuqua said the victim is in stable condition and expected to survive.

No Threat to Hospital Patients or Staff

Because the shooting happened near Nationwide Children’s Hospital, a spokesperson for the hospital moved to reassure the public, telling 10TV that no hospital staff or patients were involved in the incident. The shooting itself remains under investigation, and law enforcement is still searching for a suspect connected to the case. No description of a suspect or details about what led up to the shooting have been released.

This is not the first time a gunshot victim has sought help at a hospital near the scene of a Columbus shooting rather than waiting for paramedics. In September, a person with a gunshot wound walked into a hospital after a shooting near the 3100 block of Allegheny Avenue, a case Hoodline previously reported also left an adult victim in stable condition and expected to recover. In a separate incident, a young person shot in the Hilltop neighborhood walked into Nationwide Children’s Hospital for help early one morning, arriving just before 4 a.m. with a gunshot wound; police said that victim was also expected to survive, according to ABC6 On Your Side.

Area Near Nationwide Children’s Has Seen Other Shootings

The area around Nationwide Children’s Hospital has had other violent incidents in recent months. In August, one person was hospitalized after a shooting a few blocks from the hospital, per NBC4 WCMH-TV. That outlet also reported that back in January 2024, a gunshot victim walked into the hospital and was later pronounced dead, though that earlier case is unrelated to Wednesday’s shooting.

Columbus has seen violent crime trend downward overall this year. Police had investigated 35 homicides through late June, down from 40 at the same point in 2025, and felonious assault cases had also dipped slightly, from 400 to 389, according to ABC6 On Your Side. The city recorded 84 homicides in 2025, its lowest annual total in 16 years, Hoodline has reported. As of July 1, Columbus police said they had solved more than 80% of this year’s homicide cases plus 10 cases from previous years, even as more than half of the year’s homicides involved domestic violence or an argument, per WOSU Public Media.
