Clouds and periods of rain are in store for Columbus on Sunday, with thunderstorms also possible. Temperatures are expected to rise from the upper 50s to around 70 degrees. The rain may be intermittent, but forecasters do not expect severe storms or flooding.
Rain Lingers Before Sunday Night Fog
The best chance for showers and a few thunderstorms comes during the afternoon, when rain chances are near 90%. East to northeast winds should run 6 to 10 mph. Thunder is expected to be isolated, and rainfall totals generally around a tenth to a quarter of an inch.
Rain is expected to ease Sunday evening. Patchy fog may then develop overnight and linger into Monday morning, with visibility dropping at times, particularly where skies clear more. Drivers heading out early may want to allow extra time.
Sunshine Returns Before A Stormier Finish
After morning fog, Monday should be partly sunny, with a high near 80 degrees and light west winds. Tuesday is forecast to be mostly sunny and warmer, reaching about 85 degrees; a slight shower chance arrives late Tuesday night.
Wednesday brings a better chance of showers and thunderstorms, at 60%, and a high near 78. Rain chances persist Thursday and Friday as highs fall into the upper 60s. Friday could also bring gusts up to 18 mph.
The temperature drop continues Friday night, when the low could reach about 43 degrees. Saturday’s high is forecast near 57, with a slight chance of showers. The week shifts from a wet Sunday to a summerlike Tuesday and a distinctly cooler weekend.
Putting the October forecast in context
To compare the warm spell and cooler finish with typical October conditions, NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information says U.S. Climate Normals provide a reference for current weather and forecasts. NOAA also cautions that normals describe present-day conditions rather than define long-term climate trends. The cited information does not give Columbus’s specific October temperature or rainfall averages.
The forecast low near 43 degrees is chilly but above freezing. For comparison, the National Weather Service Wilmington office lists Oct. 27 as the normal date for Columbus (KCMH)’s first 32°F reading, based on its 1991–2020 climatology.
