Two suspects broke into a vehicle repair shop near Highway 2 in Commerce City in the early morning hours of October 1, shattering a window before stealing a 2003 silver Mercedes wagon and ramming it through the garage door to make their escape. The Mercedes was later found a few blocks away, heavily damaged. Police are now asking the public for help identifying the pair.
According to the Commerce City Police Department, the two suspects arrived at the shop's parking lot around 4 a.m. in an older-model blue Honda CR-V. One suspect stayed behind the wheel of the CR-V as a getaway driver while the other broke in through the window, got into the Mercedes wagon, and drove it straight through the garage door to flee the scene.
Police say the Mercedes was recovered not far away, but with extensive damage from the escape. The department noted that replacing a garage door is an exorbitant cost for any small business owner to absorb, a point it emphasized while pushing the surveillance footage out to the public in hopes someone recognizes the suspects or their vehicle.
Tips Sought in Flower-Shop Burglary
In its post, Commerce City police did not mince words about why they're sharing the footage so widely. “Victimize one of our small business owners, and we're plastering the video all over social media in hopes that someone will know something that will hold you accountable,” the department wrote in its Facebook video.
Anyone with information about the flower-shop burglary is asked to contact Commerce City Police Investigator Dominick at [email protected], according to the department's post, which was also referenced by KDVR.
A Commerce City Flower-Shop Burglary
KDVR reported that Floreria Flor De Luna 3, a flower shop at 5441 Quebec St., was burglarized after suspects used a pry bar to break in, making off with bouquets made of dollar bills and cash from the register for a loss described as thousands of dollars to the business. In that case, the station reported that the suspects' faces weren't visible on camera, so investigators were instead hoping someone might recognize their clothing or the way they walked.
A car smashed into Darth Vaper Smoke Shop, where burglars entered and exited several times, causing at least $20,000 in damage.
Other Business Burglary Cases
9NEWS reported arrests of burglary suspects accused of targeting Hispanic businesses in a case involving dozens of burglaries.
For now, Commerce City police are leaning on the public to crack the case, hoping that circulating the surveillance video widely enough will put a name to the faces behind the wheel of that blue Honda CR-V.
