Lenore Nevins, 50, of Coxsackie, died following a two-vehicle collision in New Baltimore, according to State Police. The crash, involving a Nissan Altima and a Gasko & Meyer beverage distribution truck, was reported at about 10:26 a.m. Wednesday and shut down the roadway for hours.

According to The Daily Gazette, the collision occurred at the intersection of Route 9W and County Route 51, though News10 reported the crash was located near the intersection of Route 9W and Route 144. Nevins was traveling in the Nissan and was extracted from the vehicle before being flown by helicopter to Albany Medical Center at about 11:30 a.m., per the same account. The driver of the beverage truck was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Nissan Found in Ditch With Roof Sheared Off

The Nissan came to rest in a ditch on the east side of Route 9W, and its roof appeared to have been sheared off by first responders working to free Nevins from the wreckage, the report notes. A large response followed, with personnel from the New Baltimore Fire District, Cornell Hook & Ladder, Raven ambulance, Greene County paramedics, Albany County Paramedics, the Greene County Sheriff's Office and State Police all converging on the scene.

The road remained closed in both directions well past the crash, with traffic rerouted to County Highway 61 while crews worked the scene, according to the same dailygazette.com report. The closure stretched for hours before the roadway was eventually reopened.

A Stretch of Highway With a Troubled Recent History

Wednesday's crash adds to a string of serious collisions along this corridor of Greene County in recent years. Just months earlier, on April 21, 2026, a 26-year-old woman from Hannacroix was killed in a head-on crash on state Route 144 in New Baltimore, according to the Times Union. That collision, which investigators said happened when a Honda Civic crossed into the eastbound lane and struck a Subaru Forester, also drew a response from Greene County Paramedics, Ravena Rescue and State Police.

Route 9W itself has seen repeated tragedy. In December 2025, a Cairo resident died following a three-vehicle crash on the same highway, and in July 2024, a fatal crash occurred on Route 9W in nearby Catskill.

The Daily Gazette reported that State Police said Nevins was speeding westbound on County Route 51, turned left onto Route 9W, entered the southbound lane and struck the truck.
