A 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the back just before 10 a.m. Friday in front of the Golden Krust Caribbean Restaurant at 823 Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights, roughly a block from a cluster of public high schools packed with commuting students. The teen was alert and conscious when officers arrived, and EMS rushed him to Maimonides Hospital, where he is expected to recover.
According to News12 New York, the stabbing happened directly outside the fast-casual eatery. The Golden Krust location is at 823 Franklin Avenue. Police have not released information about what sparked the attack, the station's report notes.
Suspect Fled on Foot, Search Continues
Police are searching for a male suspect who ran from the scene immediately after the attack, per the same account. He is described as approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing around 130 pounds, and was dressed in all black at the time of the stabbing.
The 71st Precinct is associated with southern Crown Heights.
Schools Just Steps Away
The stabbing site sits about one block from the Prospect Heights Educational Campus at 883 Classon Avenue, a multi-school building that houses four public high schools, including International High School at Prospect Heights and the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment, according to InsideSchools. The campus houses co-located programs. International High School at Prospect Heights was established in 2004 specifically to help recent immigrant teenagers build English fluency through project-based learning, per the NYC Department of Education.
InsideSchools reports that students at the campus go through metal detectors. Citywide, a Chalkbeat report dated April 25, 2025, said the unannounced scanning unit had no working X-ray machines and was unable to conduct scanning.
Earlier Crown Heights Stabbing
In August, a 30-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in nearby Lincoln Terrace Park.
It remains unknown whether the suspect and the teenage victim knew each other or whether the confrontation began inside or outside the restaurant. Anyone with information is urged to contact police as the search for the suspect continues.
