Discover Church is proposing a major renovation and expansion of its South Shore campus at 4970 S. Swift Ave. in Cudahy, a project that would add 12,000 square feet to the building and bring its total footprint to 24,560 square feet. The plans call for a new gathering space and classrooms.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the project will unfold in phases. The first phase is set to start in fall 2026. The second phase, scheduled for spring 2027, includes demolishing the existing convent building to make way for the addition, with the whole project expected to wrap up in fall 2027.

Congregants meet around the corner in the church's Education Building at 3828 E. Holmes Ave., according to the church's own campus page.

Who's Behind the Application

Madisen Maher Architects of Milwaukee submitted the application on behalf of Discover Church, the Journal Sentinel reports. The Cudahy Plan Commission is set to review the site plans at its Oct. 13 meeting, the same outlet notes.

Any project of this scale has to clear a specific municipal process first. The City of Cudahy's Plan Commission page states that site plans and building plans must be reviewed by the Plan Commission before construction can begin, a requirement that covers new construction, additions and changes to an existing layout.

A Young Second Campus

The South Shore campus is a relatively recent addition to Discover Church's footprint. The congregation, which also operates a campus in Oak Creek, officially added the Cudahy location — known as Discover Church South Shore — on Nov. 11, 2025, according to the church's own account on its website. The church describes its operating model as one church gathering in two locations.

With the Plan Commission now weighing in on the site plans, the proposed addition marks the next step for a campus that's barely a year old. If approved, the renovated and expanded South Shore campus is expected to be completed in fall 2027.
