Cloudy skies and periods of rain are taking over Washington on Thursday, with showers beginning after 7 a.m. and temperatures topping out near 63 degrees. Northeast winds will run 5 to 9 mph, and rainfall totals could reach between a tenth and a quarter of an inch.
Rain Arrives Before Another Warmup
Showers are expected to become more likely around midday before gradually tapering Thursday evening. The National Weather Service forecast puts the daytime rain chance at 80%, with no watches or warnings currently posted for the District.
Friday Brings Heat, Wind And Storm Risk
Friday will feel like a different season, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 83 degrees. South winds of 7 to 13 mph could gust to 25 mph, followed by a strong cold front late Friday afternoon or evening that may bring damaging wind gusts, showers and thunderstorms.
The storm line is expected to move east Friday night, when the chance of rain and thunderstorms reaches 70%. A quick tornado spin-up cannot be ruled out, so outdoor plans may need a backup option as the front approaches.
Weekend Chill Arrives Fast
Saturday starts with a chance of showers before turning mostly sunny, but the high will struggle to reach 55 degrees. Northerly winds around 16 mph could produce gusts near 30 to 40 mph, making the temperature drop feel even sharper.
Saturday night falls to around 39 degrees in Washington, followed by a sunny Sunday near 57. Frost and freezing temperatures are more likely west of the Blue Ridge and especially west of Interstate 95, while the District settles into a chilly but mostly dry stretch that continues into next week.
The sharper Friday-to-Saturday change updates the temperature whiplash described in Hoodline’s earlier D.C. forecast. After the weekend chill, sunny conditions return Monday through Wednesday, with highs gradually recovering into the low and mid-60s.
