A Daniel Island home already famous for turning its front yard into a walk-through monster mash has gone even bigger this year, with owners adding two full shipping containers of new decorations to a display that already pulls in thousands of visitors every season. The property, set up again for 2026, now features Frankenstein and other moving monsters scattered across the lawn, and it remains open to the public for anyone who wants to wander through.
As reported by WCIV, the display sits at 557 Park Crossing Drive on Daniel Island, though another local source, Kidding Around Charleston, refers to the address as 557 Park Crossing Street. Whatever the exact street designation, it's become one of the most talked-about stops on the island each fall. The display is open to the public.
From Dinosaurs to a Museum Exhibit
The Branigans' yard hasn't always leaned toward classic monsters. Their 2023 display went full prehistoric, featuring, per Charleston Moms, seven large-scale animatronic dinosaurs including a Dilophosaurus, an adult Tyrannosaurus Rex and a Triceratops, built around what Kevin Branigan described to The Daniel Island News as a “'Jurassic Park' meets 'Game of Thrones' theme.”
Three of those dinosaurs eventually outgrew the yard. The Dilophosaurus, T. rex and Triceratops were donated to the College of Charleston's Mace Brown Museum of Natural History, where they joined three raptors and a baby T. rex already on display, The Daniel Island News reports. That same year, the Branigans' display drew an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 visitors, a figure Charleston Moms says holds up as a typical range for the couple's holiday-season turnout.
A Tour That Keeps Growing Across the Island
The Branigans' property is just one stop on a much larger phenomenon. Daniel Island's Spooky Tour has exploded since resident Engler began mapping decorated homes in 2021 strictly for family outings; by 2023 the self-guided route had grown to 31 homes, according to The Daniel Island News. Engler told the paper, “At first it was just for friends, but then it blew up.”
For 2026, the self-guided tour features more than 45 houses on the map, according to Kidding Around Charleston. Kidding Around Charleston describes it as a self-guided, “choose your own adventure” tour, open to everyone from families with trick-or-treaters to neighbors just looking for a scare, adding that visitors make the rounds “by car, golf cart, bike, or on foot.”
Other Standout Yards Across the Island
The Park Crossing display isn't the only one residents point to. Kidding Around Charleston singles it out for dozens of animatronics, large jump-scare setups, and a fire-breathing dragon visitors can actually ride.
The Daniel Island Garden Club also runs its own Halloween and holiday decorating contest, judged across seven zones on the island, per dicommunity.org. Decorations typically go up in early October and stay through Halloween, with the heaviest concentration of participating homes appearing in the final week before the holiday, Kidding Around Charleston notes.
Beyond Daniel Island, Yards Raise Money Too
Similar displays elsewhere in the Lowcountry carry a charitable angle the Daniel Island tour doesn't emphasize. In West Ashley, the Kreutner family's Longbranch Drive yard fills with witches, skeletons and ghosts and supports the Down Syndrome Association of the Lowcountry, according to ABC News 4. Nearby, Scott Swiatkowski's display at the corner of Parkdale Drive and McKee Court features an electric chair and a carousel, and raises money for Share Our Suzy, which helps breast cancer patients in the Lowcountry.
Back on Daniel Island, Engler's holiday ambitions don't stop at Halloween. The same organizer behind the Spooky Tour also runs a Christmas version called the Cheer Tour, The Daniel Island News reports — a fitting bookend for a neighborhood where the Branigans, too, are already known for going all-out once the decorations shift from dinosaurs and monsters to Santa.
