Crews swarmed the area near West Grand Avenue and Rosedale Drive in Dayton Thursday evening after a report of a shooting, with one person reported injured and that person's condition unknown. The call came in shortly after 6:30 p.m., according to a Montgomery County Regional Dispatch sergeant.
The initial report described a shooting, but accounts of what actually happened diverge. According to WKEF, one person was reported to be injured in the shooting, per the dispatch sergeant, though the person's condition remained unknown as crews worked the scene. A different account from wdtn.com says that when officers arrived, it was determined no one had actually been shot, but that several people were injured. The two reports have not been reconciled, and it is unclear which characterization reflects the final determination.
Aggravated Robbery Investigation Opens
The station's report frames the incident as an aggravated robbery rather than a straightforward shooting. The Dayton Police Department is investigating after multiple individuals were injured during the aggravated robbery on Thursday, Oct. 1, per the same account. The number of people hurt, their identities, and the extent of their injuries have not been disclosed.
In the aftermath, officers located a suspect vehicle connected to the case and initiated a pursuit, the outlet reports. That chase ended when officers deployed a Precision Intervention Technique, commonly known as a PIT maneuver, to stop the vehicle.
Cruisers Allegedly Rammed Before Arrest
Before officers could take the suspect into custody, the situation escalated further. The suspect allegedly intentionally rammed two police cruisers, and officers had to use force to make the arrest, according to the same report. Details on the suspect's identity, any charges filed, or how many people were ultimately taken into custody have not been released.
Rosedale Drive has seen gun violence before. Back on May 30, a man was shot in the leg during a shooting on the street, according to dayton247now.com. Officers had responded to a report of a person shot on the 1400 block of Rosedale Drive around 8 p.m. that evening and found a 21-year-old man with a suspected gunshot wound to his right leg; he was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, the outlet reported at the time.
Thursday's incident remains under investigation, and conflicting details about whether anyone was actually shot during the encounter have not been resolved by either outlet. This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
