The Metropolitan Police Department is asking for the public's help identifying a person connected to a burglary at a business in the 4200 block of Barnaby Road SE. Several people entered the establishment on September 20 and took property before leaving, and investigators have now released video and photographs showing one of them.
According to WJLA, the Metropolitan Police Department requested the public's help identifying a person connected with the burglary, which happened on the same September 20 date at the Southeast Washington address. Police reported that several people entered the establishment and took property before getting away, per the department's account of the incident.
Footage Released as Police Push for Tips
Investigators have released video and photographs showing one of the people involved, hoping someone in the community recognizes them. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 202-727-9099, and tips can also be sent by text to 50411. Police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest and an indictment in the case, the station's report notes.
A separate Northwest burglary case covered in earlier Hoodline reporting carried an MPD reward of up to $10,000. That reward applied to a different investigation; the Barnaby Road case has a reward of up to $1,000.
Burglaries Trending Upward Citywide
Districtwide figures provide broader context, but do not describe business burglaries or the Barnaby Road area specifically. Hoodline's earlier analysis of D.C. Open Data counted 646 reported burglaries year-to-date in 2026, compared with 589 over the same period in 2025, even as overall property crime declined 15% citywide.
Other Business Burglary Reports
For comparison, the Metropolitan Police Department reported two separate business burglaries in Southwest on October 24, 2024. Suspects took no property from a business in the Unit block of District Square; at a business in the 800 block of Maine Avenue, they took property and money. That release describes individual incidents, not a year-over-year tally for the district covering Barnaby Road, so it does not show whether business burglaries there have changed over the past year.
According to Metropolitan Police Department, no arrest has been announced in the Barnaby Road burglary, and police have not released further details about the person seen in the footage. Anyone who recognizes the individual or has other information about the September 20 incident is urged to come forward and claim the reward.
