A 46-year-old Washington, D.C. man serving a five-year sentence for sex-abuse crimes pleaded guilty to escaping from a Baltimore residential re-entry center last year, federal prosecutors say, after staff caught him under the influence of an unknown drug and carrying unidentified narcotics just one day into his stay. Lamont Antwan Warren walked out of the facility without registering as a sex offender as required, and remained at large for more than a month before investigators tracked him down back in the nation's capital.
Warren had been transferred to Baltimore on May 22, 2025, from a correctional facility in Waymart, Pennsylvania, so he could finish serving his sentence in community housing, according to Fox Baltimore. Court documents cited by the station say that just one day after he arrived, staff found Warren under the influence of an unknown drug and carrying unidentified narcotics. The facility, run by Volunteers of America, is one of the Bureau of Prisons' network of residential re-entry centers, which the Bureau of Prisons describes as providing a safe, structured and supervised environment for inmates nearing release, along with services like employment counseling and financial-management assistance.
Caseworker Refusal, Then a Fast Disappearance
Rather than cooperate, Warren refused to meet with his caseworker, ignored staff instructions and walked out of the building, per the same account. Staff were left scrambling almost immediately: about two minutes after he left, they received an alert that Warren had tampered with his GPS monitor, which was soon found discarded in the facility's parking lot.
Warren also left without registering as a sex offender, a step prosecutors say he was required to complete in Maryland within three days of his arrival. Under the state law governing that requirement, a registrant without a fixed address must still register with the appropriate supervising authority and local law enforcement unit within three days of obtaining one, according to the Maryland General Assembly's statute text. Warren never registered before vanishing, prosecutors say.
Captured in DC More Than a Month Later
Authorities finally located and arrested Warren back in Washington, D.C., on June 25, 2025, more than a month after he first slipped out of the Baltimore facility, the station's report notes. As reported by CBS Baltimore, Warren has since pleaded guilty to escaping from custody.
The federal escape statute he was charged under covers anyone who escapes or attempts to escape from the custody of the Attorney General, a federal institution or facility, custody under federal court process, or the custody of a federal officer following a lawful arrest, according to the United States Code. Warren now faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison for the escape charge, with his ultimate punishment to be determined by a federal judge.
