A 14-year-old boy who is deaf and relies on a cochlear hearing device has been missing since Monday in Harris County. Omar Cameron was last seen on October 12, according to a missing juvenile bulletin. He may not hear someone calling or approaching.
Constable Mark Herman's office put out the public appeal for help finding Omar in a Facebook post. Omar is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 134 pounds, with black curly hair and blue/brown eyes. He wears glasses and was last seen carrying a gray backpack, wearing tan/brown slides and black jeans. His shirt at the time is unknown.

Legal Thresholds Behind the Search
Texas law requires that reports of missing children be entered into the National Crime Information Center database immediately and without any mandatory waiting period, under Article 63.009 of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Still, a statewide AMBER Alert requires a confirmed abduction involving imminent danger of death or serious injury, while an Endangered Missing Persons Alert requires a documented intellectual or developmental disability.
A Region Already Stretched by Missing Child Cases
Omar's disappearance adds to a heavy caseload facing Harris County authorities. In 2025, law enforcement agencies across the county recorded 6,357 new missing child reports, contributing to 7,988 missing child cases across the 14-county Houston-Galveston region, which represented 28% of all missing children cases statewide in Texas, according to the Texas Center for the Missing, the designated regional clearinghouse for AMBER, Silver and Endangered Missing Persons Alerts across the Houston-Galveston area. The organization's data also shows that 80% to 85% of missing children reports in the Houston area are initially categorized as runaways.
Harris County Precinct 4, the agency leading the search for Omar, is the largest constable agency in the United States. The office has used scent-tracking K-9 units, tactical drones, and its C4 NOW mobile app to share live public safety updates in past searches, though it is not yet known whether those specialized assets have been deployed in Omar's case. Hoodline has previously reported on Precinct 4's drone-backed search that found a Spring 13-year-old safe and on K-9 Hades, the department's scent-discrimination dog that located a missing teen and woman in a single day earlier this year.
Anyone with information on Omar's location is asked to contact Precinct 4 dispatch at 281-376-3472 and reference case number 2610-01663. Deputies have not released further detail on the circumstances of his disappearance.
