A 29-year-old Northeast D.C. man is facing felony charges after police say he was denied entry to a business on the 600 block of Florida Avenue NW, then spat on a victim, pulled a knife, and threatened to kill them before fleeing. Quabanah Alijalon-Kittim Abdelaziz was later located and arrested without incident, and the victim suffered only minor injuries, according to police.
Officers responded to a reported assault on the 600 block of Florida Avenue NW on Sunday, as reported by WJLA. Investigators identified Abdelaziz as the suspect after he was allegedly denied entry to a business in the area, then allegedly spat on and assaulted the victim before displaying a knife and threatening to kill them. He fled the scene afterward, but responding officers located and arrested him without incident, per the station's report.
Metropolitan Police charged Abdelaziz with assault with a dangerous weapon, simple assault, and felony threats. The charges span a wide range of severity under D.C. law: simple assault is a misdemeanor carrying up to 180 days behind bars, while assault with a dangerous weapon is a felony punishable by as much as 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine, Justia Law notes. Felony ADW charges in the District do not require physical contact or injury if a weapon is displayed in a threatening manner.
Felony Threats Charge
Koehler Law says felony threats under D.C. Code § 22-1810 involve threats to kidnap or injure a person, or physically damage property, and require intent. The ordinary-listener test for fear of physical injury or death applies to misdemeanor threats under § 22-407. The charge follows the allegation that Abdelaziz threatened to kill the victim while displaying a knife.
The 600 block of Florida Avenue NW has seen violent knife incidents before. In June 2025, a suspect fleeing a nearby store attacked responding police officers on the same block, inflicting a forehead wound that required more than 50 stitches, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. That suspect was charged with four offenses, including assault with intent to kill. Hoodline covered the officer's injury at the time.
The D.C. Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration's North Shaw Moratorium document describes an area extending about 600 feet in all directions from 1909 9th Street NW. It proposed restrictions on new nightclub licenses and entertainment endorsements after residents complained about noise and disorder, according to the D.C. Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration.
One weapons-related arrest along Florida Avenue NW was reported in 2025. In August 2025, officers recovered a loaded Glock 22 handgun from a convicted felon during an arrest near a gas station on the corridor; that case resulted in a 33-month federal prison sentence handed down May 21, 2026, as Hoodline previously reported. A group robbery spree also took place in Shaw.
The D.C. Safe and Beautiful Task Force is part of a broader citywide coordination effort involving federal and local agencies.
