Denton's second Nightmare on Elm Street Basketball Tip-Off took place Oct. 22, 2025, on Elm Street between Hickory and Oak streets.
A Tradition Takes Shape
The 2025 tip-off was Denton's second annual edition. UNT first hosted the showcase on Oct. 16, 2024, setting up a court on Elm Street between Hickory and Oak streets, according to University of North Texas Athletics. That inaugural edition featured both the UNT men's and women's basketball teams alongside TWU.
The showcase returned in 2025 as part of the city's “Thirty One Days of Halloween” festivities. The athletics department's write-up noted that it remained free and open to the public.
Community Partnerships Have Grown Alongside the Event
The 2024 showcase also included youth participants from Denton ISD alongside TWU's NCAA Division II team, extending the event beyond a university exhibition.
The 2025 edition featured teams from the University of North Texas and Texas Woman's University.
The 2025 Event Downtown
The event was free and open to the public.
Downtown Events and Street Closures
The City of Denton announced street closures for the separate Every Witch Way Market in downtown Denton on Nov. 11, 2023, according to the City of Denton. The example shows that temporary street restrictions have accompanied some downtown events; the announcement does not describe broader city policies governing closures.
