Tucson is starting Thursday, October 22, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures around 73 degrees, but the calm opening may not last. Showers and thunderstorms are possible through the afternoon, with a high near 85 before temperatures slide toward the upper 70s later in the day.
Storm Chances Build This Afternoon
The best chance for storms arrives from late morning through midafternoon, when rain chances climb toward 30% and southwest winds run 5 to 13 mph, with gusts up to 23 mph. The National Weather Service Tucson office says the strongest storms, especially north and northeast of Tucson, could bring heavy downpours, strong winds and hail.
A quick burst of rain could also create flash-flood trouble in washes and low spots, even if skies stay dry over much of the city. Rain chances taper after about 5 p.m., and the evening should turn partly cloudy with a low around 60. Drivers should avoid crossing water-covered roads and give thunderstorms plenty of space.
Sunny, Cooler Weekend Ahead
Friday, October 23, turns sunny and cooler, with a high near 79 and a low around 57. Saturday and Sunday stay sunny with highs near 78 to 79, while overnight temperatures dip into the mid-50s.
Warmth gradually returns Monday through Wednesday, with highs of 82 to 84 and mostly sunny skies. Tuesday night and Wednesday night may bring a few more clouds, but the forecast remains mostly dry through the middle of next week.
