Detroit police are asking for the public’s help identifying two men accused of breaking into a vehicle parked near Farmer and Monroe streets by Campus Martius Park downtown. Investigators say the break-in happened between 1 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 21, and both suspects remain unidentified.
According to the Detroit Police Department, the two men are believed to be Black males between roughly 16 and 22 years old with light skin tones, as reported by ClickOnDetroit. One suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants with the word “Supreme” written on the left pant leg, a detail that could help narrow down his identity. The second man had a thin mustache and was dressed in a brown Carhartt knit hat, a matching brown Carhartt vest, a black hooded sweater, gray pants and black-and-white gym shoes, according to wxyz.com.
What Investigators Want From the Public
The Detroit Police Department’s Third Precinct is asking anyone who recognizes either suspect, or who has information about the crime itself, to come forward. Tipsters can call the Third Precinct directly at 313-596-5341, the station’s report notes. Those who prefer to stay anonymous can reach Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak-Up, or submit a tip through DetroitRewards.Tv, which is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
No arrests have been announced in connection with the case, and police have not released additional details about how the suspects accessed the vehicle or what, if anything, was taken. The Detroit Police Department has not said whether the two men are believed to have acted alone or as part of a broader pattern of break-ins in the area.
Not the First Downtown Appeal This Year
This is not the only time this year that Detroit police have turned to the public for help identifying vehicle break-in suspects. In August, the department released images of three pictured suspects in a separate case, saying that vehicle was damaged but that no items were reported missing, according to ClickOnDetroit’s earlier report. It is unclear whether that case was ever resolved, and police have not linked it to the Campus Martius Park incident.
Anyone with information on the identities of either suspect from the October incident is urged to reach out to the Third Precinct or submit a tip anonymously. Police have not released a timeline for when they expect to identify the two men.
